Activated Charcoal is a mainstay for gastrointestinal detoxification2 in acute and chronic settings and has a high affinity for chemically different mycotoxins3; it reduces intestinal re-absorption of mycotoxins and microbial endotoxin1; it has been shown to absorb 90% of endotoxin in an in vitro solution and is more effective at removing the cytokines IL beta 1 and TNF alpha than cholestyramine ; and it reduces the malodor of intestinal gas. Activated charcoal adsorbs many noxious substances – medical drugs, phytotoxins and poisonous chemicals—onto its surface, preventing their absorption from the gastrointestinal tract*. As a secondary decontamination mechanism, it interrupts potential enterohepatic and/or enteroenteric re-absorption and re-circulation.* Activated charcoal is included in the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines as a non-specific antidote for use in poisonings.

Organic Chlorella is a broad-spectrum nonspecific binding agent that binds and lowers circulating levels of mycotoxins and endotoxin1; it reduces methyl mercury transfer to the fetus and brain6; it reduces the suppressive effects of lead toxicity on natural killer cells, cytokine production and bone marrow; and it significantly reduces lead toxicity in the blood and tissues . Bentonite Clay has been extensively studied in veterinary medicine to protect various animals against the toxicity and feed-to-tissue accumulation of mold toxins. * Bentonite Clay is a cationic agent, making it possible to bind negatively charged ions like mold toxins. It has performed well as a detoxifying agent in studies focused on various mycotoxins, toxic metals and several pesticides. * Bentonite clay is a low contaminant form of binding clay, which is used extensively in natural medicine and the food industry to bind and remove impurities. It is effective at binding and sequestering fungal toxins aflatoxin and fumosinin, thus reducing its bioavailability and decreasing the incidence of aflatoxin-induced health problems. Bentonite inhibits immune responses to LPS.*

Slippery Elm Bark is a natural mucilagenous agent, soothing the digestive tract during detoxification and helping to decrease the constipating effects of binders. Slippery Elm bark forms a mucilaginous coating in the intestines that soothes and protects inflamed and irritated digestive tract mucosal tissues; it reduces symptoms of IBS and constipation. In addition to its demulcent action, it attenuates perceived slowing of the digestive system experienced during detoxification and use of carbon-based sequestrants.
