Quality & Testing

We trust our manufacturers. We still verify.

Return Healthy formulas are made in the USA by the best manufacturers we can find, in FDA-registered, cGMP-compliant facilities, and every batch is tested before release. Then we send finished product to an independent, ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory and publish what comes back, including any result that isn't zero.

Why an Outside Lab

Two sets of eyes, not one

We work with the best contract manufacturers we can find, and we trust them. Under current Good Manufacturing Practice, every batch is tested at the facility for identity, potency and contamination before it's released, with records kept for each run.

Independent testing adds a second set of eyes. It confirms what our manufacturers' own testing shows and makes sure nothing slips through the cracks. It also means you don't have to take our word for any of it.

Light Labs is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing laboratories. They're independent of Return Healthy and of our manufacturers, and their lab director signs every result.

01

Made and tested

Produced in an FDA-registered, cGMP-compliant facility and tested in-house before release.

02

Verified independently

Finished product goes to Light Labs for a separate, accredited analysis.

Results, test dates and certificates are posted on this page, product by product.

The Results

Every product, every substance measured

Choose a product to see what was tested, what was found, when it was tested and the certificate of analysis behind it.

Testing is underway across the full catalog. Results are published here as each product completes independent analysis and the lab director signs off, so this list grows week by week. If a product you're looking for isn't listed yet, its results are still in progress.

Reading the Numbers

Detected doesn't mean unsafe

Lead, arsenic and cadmium occur naturally in the earth's crust. Plants absorb them, so they're present in everyday food. Organic spinach, brown rice and cocoa powder all contain measurable lead.

No supplement made from plants or minerals can promise a true zero. What we can do is measure carefully, publish the number and show what it means next to foods you already eat.

Not detected

The substance was below the lowest level the method can reliably measure. It's the floor of a test designed to find very small amounts.

A number, not a verdict

A measured value is information. We publish trace findings instead of hiding them. A panel where every result is conveniently zero is the one worth questioning.

A snapshot of a batch

Each result reflects the samples submitted at the time of testing. It describes that batch, not a permanent property of the product.

What We Test For

Two questions, every product

Is what's on the label actually in the bottle? And is anything in there that shouldn't be?

What's on the label

Identity & potency

Confirms each active ingredient is the species named on the label, present in the amount stated.

Method varies by ingredient

What shouldn't be there

Heavy metals

Lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury, the four that matter most in botanicals, mineral ingredients and clays.

ICP-MS · USP <2232>

Mycotoxins

Aflatoxins, ochratoxin A and trichothecenes. These are the mold-derived toxins many of our customers are already working to clear.

LC-MS/MS

Microbials

Total plate count, yeast and mold, with screening for E. coli and Salmonella.

USP <61> · USP <62>

Pesticide residue

A multi-residue screen across our botanical ingredients, where treatment in the field can carry through into the extract.

LC-MS/MS · GC-MS/MS

Where the Risk Is

Not every ingredient carries the same risk

Contamination risk depends on where an ingredient comes from and how it's processed. Here is where that risk sits across our formulas, and why.

Highest risk

Binders and clays

Bentonite, zeolite and activated charcoal aren't manufactured. They're mined. Whatever sits in the ground around a clay deposit, including lead, arsenic and aluminum, can come out with it. The porous structure that lets a binder hold on to toxins in the gut is the same structure that can pick them up at the source.

Purification varies widely between suppliers. In 2016 the FDA warned consumers away from a bentonite clay sold for internal cleansing after its own lab measured lead at 37.5 parts per million. Binders are taken daily, often for months, by people working to lower their toxic load, so this category gets the closest scrutiny.

Elevated risk

Botanical extracts

Plants draw minerals out of the soil they grow in, and roots in particular can accumulate heavy metals. Extraction concentrates the compounds we want, and it concentrates anything else the plant took up along with them.

Pesticides add a second path. A treatment applied by a grower several steps up the supply chain can carry through into a finished extract. Every botanical is screened for both.

Lower risk

Vitamins, minerals and phospholipids

These are synthesized or refined rather than harvested, so they carry much less contamination risk by the nature of how they're made.

For these the main question is quantity. Identity and potency testing confirms the amount in the capsule matches the amount on the label.

For Practitioners

Certificates for your files

If you're recommending a protocol, you may need the full documentation rather than a summary. Every certificate of analysis behind the results on this page is available in full, including methods, reporting limits, measured values and the lab director's signature.

Practitioners can request current certificates for any product, or the complete set for a kit protocol as a single file.

Questions

Common questions

Who is Light Labs?

An independent analytical laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. Light Labs isn't affiliated with Return Healthy or with the facilities that make our formulas, and every result is approved and signed by their lab director.

Where are Return Healthy products made?

In the USA, in FDA-registered facilities that follow current Good Manufacturing Practice. Each batch is made under documented controls for cleanliness, consistency and traceability, and is tested at the facility before release.

How often do you test?

Every batch is tested at the facility before release. Independent results from Light Labs are added to this page as each product completes testing, and each one shows the date it was tested.

What happens if a result comes back out of range?

We retest. If the second result confirms the first, that lot is not released. It's destroyed, not reworked or sold elsewhere. We then work with our manufacturer to find the cause, and the batch is made again.

Does testing mean a product will work for me?

Testing tells you what's in the bottle: that each ingredient is what the label says, in the amount it says, without contaminants that shouldn't be there. How a formula supports you as an individual is a separate question, and one a certificate of analysis isn't designed to answer.

Results reflect laboratory analysis of submitted samples at the time of testing, as reported by the testing laboratory. Results do not guarantee future performance, stability or shelf life.
